Things that happen at work:
So, my coworkers know that am good at sewing and do clothing repairs or alterations as a side hustle.
One of my coworkers is a semi retired professional bodybuilder. He was a driver, but now he’s the night dispatcher, and he’s…kinda crazy. Not in a bad way, but just…very Right Wing Alpha Male Energy, while at the same time being very self aware of his personal flaws, CONSTANTLY happily stoned, accepting of other people’s opinions and views as long as you aren’t trying to change his mind, just bringing interesting talking points to the table…the analogy I suggested that he liked the best is that he’s like fancy licorice, a very strong distinct flavor, very few people like it, definitely an acquired taste, and probably an expensive mistake if you’ve never had licorice before.
That all being said, he’s still a semi retired bodybuilder and obsessed with having ALL of his pants fit his ankles as if he were wearing sweatpants. And his “nice” shirts being fitted to his current torso size rather than his previous size. I only charge $10 a garment if it’s just a basic alteration or repair, so about once a month he gives me two or thre things to take in or add elastic to.
But remember how he’s now a dispatcher, not necessarily everyone’s cup of tea, on top of being constantly stoned and knowing that I can sew? Anyway.
Me: *coming into the driver room so that I can punch out with the fingerprint scanner thing, having casual good bye conversations, while the day dispatch guy is leaving and Crazy Bro is taking over*
Crazy Bro: Hey, I have a very serious question for you. What if…I wanted to have my face just…sewn directly onto my ass?
Me, after a very surprised pause: I mean, it’s definitely doable. It’d have to be hand stitching and I’d have to get the right kind of thread to make it permanent, but I’ve already got my grandmother’s saddle repair kit, plus all my curved needles, so like. It’s definitely doable. Do you want to be dead while I do this, or are you thinking straight up centipede style? There’s broken bones either way, just. How exactly do you want to do this?
Crazy Bro: Honestly, I just wanted to see how you would respond. I’m impressed that you took it as seriously as you did. I was honestly thinking you would get grossed out and storm off.
Me: Bitch, please. I know you well enough to know to feed your hunger for knowledge before I feed your basic thot thirst for a ReAcTiOn. How else am I going to feed my own intrinsic need to be liked by everyone? (Yes I used air quotes to enunciate my verbal response, no I’m not ashamed of myself)
Crazy Bro: This is why I like you. You’re soft, and good at hiding, but secretly you’re as cold on the inside as I am.
Me, in all seriousness: I’m good at empathy and conflict avoidance tactics. I’m not hiding anything, I just know that you will respect me more if I respond with facts and a plan instead of freaking out.

@ghost-hours this is incredibly interesting and def belongs outside of the tags. When writing this I really didn't consider the fact that real people very closely mirror the fictional disabilities listed (outside of the telepath/autism analogy) but I think it really adds to the post.
One reason I think fictional versions of real world problems help is because people already have preconceived notions of the real world which can distort there interpretation of discussions. Real world problems are also incredibly complicated and full of nuance which can make it difficult to write about without risking people developing misguided assumptions.
Fictional counterparts can help get around these problems. Firstly, since these aren't real, people don't have preconceived notions and coming into the discussion with an opinionated mind; this is an oversimplification though, it is impossible to fully remove anyone's preconceived notions and results vary depending on how blunt the metaphor is. Secondly, it detaches itself from real world experiences so you can get away with simplifying the discussion without the risks brought up earlier.
The battery pack is a good example of this, when many people hear about the body builder, intentionally or not there views of his condition are going to be distorted by the fact he's a bodybuilder. We also have a terrible habit as a species as to only focusing on things we find interesting, namely we focus of the mechanical heart and not the battery pack.
Both of these issues don't emerge, we don't judge the robot for there faulty battery nor do we lose focus on any important details because the details unnecessary to the discussion have been removed. We focus entirely on the battery pack leading the discussions and thoughts being built around the inconveniences of having to carry such a heavy metal container around all day along with logistical issues like what if the battery gets unplugged and how is the battery swapped out/recharged? These problems also exist with the body builder but we ended up getting distracted from them due to our preconceived notions and the irrelevant details.
This doesn't mean fictional counterparts are always superior, they are riddled with issues. If the metaphors are too obvious, they won't function and if they're too obscure then any connection to the real world is lost. Simplification also limits the discussion, for instance the body builder has many more problems caused by the mechanical heart which the robot with a battery pack does not cover. And finally, fictional counterparts are simply worse disability representation than real disabilities that real people face; fictional counterparts can also be used to avoid representation like with shapeshifters and non-binary peeps.

Shark girls who have pumps over one of there gills because they can't continuously swim fast enough to receive enough water through there gills.

non-telepaths (in a world of only telepaths) constantly having to explain to angry people berating them because they assumed that the person is a telepath.
They both add a depth of realism to a universe and another perspective for abled bodied audiences to understand what its like to be disabled and are also fun.

Let's do a quick RFK Jr. themed debunk-a-thon.
First, your appearance is not an indication of health. People with terminal cancer can have six pack abs and overweight lifelong smokers have lived to be 100.
Second, physical fitness does not mean you have the knowledge and expertise of a doctor. A 70 year old with abs is probably on a boatload of steroids and actually increasing health risks. A doctor would probably say you shouldn't take steroids without some actual need beyond biceps you can brag about.
And the analogy of the personal trainer is faulty as well. There are plenty of people who are good at advising people without being able to do the thing they are giving advice for.
Athletic coaches are a great example.
A lot of the winningest NFL coaches were mediocre high school or college athletes. And their physique usually resembles that of Santa Claus.

But they get Super Bowl rings along with everyone else on the team.
Doctors are known for being the "worst patients." Many of them are so overworked that they turn to vices to help relieve their stress. They can overeat or smoke. They might be too tired to have any kind of fitness routine. My good friend Dr. Kevin has to wrangle three daughters while running a pediatric rheumatology department. He's the smartest person I've ever personally known and a fantastic doctor. But he will not be winning any bodybuilding contests.
RKF Jr. has a lot of money and time and access to personal trainers and nutritionists and human growth hormone. But sure, let's let him do some heart surgery and see how it goes.
Let's move on to some of his biggest concerns regarding our societal health...
Current evidence suggests…

It just so happens that most processed foods are soft, easy to eat quickly, and they have a lot of fat, salt, or sugar, while being very calorie dense. They are often super tasty to the point of being psychologically addictive. That is a perfect storm of factors making processed foods very easy to overeat. The idea that the act of processing food causes some extraordinary harm outside of the ingredients already being unhealthy is most likely a myth. (More nuance here.)
Similarly, seed oils are not causing harm outside of them often being used to cook calorie dense food with a lot of fat, salt, or sugar.
Food dyes are safe in normal amounts. The concerning studies gave kids two colored drinks along with a shitload of candy every single day for two weeks. The problems went away when the amount was reduced to moderate levels. (More nuance here.)
Supplements are mostly an expensive way to fortify your pee with vitamins. You are literally pissing money away. You really only need to supplement something you are personally deficient in. Though if you can get those vitamins from food or sunshine, you will probably more effectively absorb them. I use supplements because my disability keeps me from being able to consistently cook or go outside. Just because something is "natural" does not mean it can replace actual medicine.
Organic food is not special and has become marketing hype.
GMOs are fine.
And finally…
VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM.
Vaccines are safe and effective and they are probably the best thing humans have ever created. They have saved millions of lives. Many of those lives were CHILDREN. (More nuance here.)
The other problem is that RFK speaks definitively and bombastically. Food dyes give you ADHD. Seed oils explode your heart. Corn syrup makes your toes fall off. Processed foods make you a bloated zombie. Vaccines alter your DNA and turn you into a mutant.
It's fear mongering, plain and simple.
He is not interested in making anyone healthy, he just wants to scare you into believing his conspiracy theories. He uses the tiniest nugget of truth or suspicion and elevates it to fact whenever it helps his agenda.
Or he skips the nugget altogether and just blatantly makes shit up.
Because I have, ya know, ethics... I have to say "nuance here" because a lot of this stuff is very complicated and you can't actually say anything with 100% certainty. And that uncertainty is how he weasels his ideas into the public consciousness. When science updates our understanding of something, people say the science was wrong. "First they said this and now they say this!" Having better information is not a failure—it's progress. It is just the process working as it should. But they use that to hurt the reputation of science and scientists.
Scientific consensus is always just the best representation of our knowledge at any given point in time. We would never be able to eat any food or take any medicine if 100% certainty was required. We'd all starve and die because we weren't allowed to take even the most marginal of risks.

Decay...
The class distinction among those not satisfied with their lives is excessive. A fundamental example of this is evident in the portraits of unhappy individuals in today's society.
In the era where everyone functions as an element of capitalism, they express themselves through their bodies on social media rather than through ideas. While bodybuilders were once considered athletes, today everyone endeavors to aesthetically enhance their bodies, struggling to find a place in the showcase. This critique extends beyond physical health, pointing out symptoms of social media viral infections. Life, as the famous Iranian director suggests, is shallow and open:
"I believe existence is just an illusion. If we accept that everything is in a transitional state, embrace the nature of movement in our lives, and abandon sticking to a goal, we can grasp life better and derive more pleasure from it."
But today, people don't question; they only consume!
Everyone indulges in a selfish masculinity, becoming commodities of the system. In the future of the children, humanity's only hope, the corridors of anxiety created by the smallest organisms we consider superior pollute their futures with wounds, respiratory failures, hopelessness, animosity, hatred, massacres, and more.
Why don't we stop?
The only reality that doesn't deserve this tragedy is the children. Rectifying this nightmare we've created will come to fruition when we realize our intellectual and moral obligations. Otherwise, if we, when faced with criticisms from children who curse our past, develop a new generation of criticism rather than remaining silent, we will become nothing more than the cancer cells of this illusory life form inherited from our elders. In fact, we are the ones turning our past into a graveyard and condemning our future. No one trusts each other. Goodness is a choice, and evil is the application of human definition.
Social decay is increasing for this reason!
While everyone is a miserable Quasimodo, everyone desires a priest. The true hero of this story is not Esmeralda or the despotic priest but Quasimodo, the one who writes and directs the story.
The candid description of non-acceptance reveals that behind many situations perceived as irresponsible from an external perspective or deemed lazy or irresponsible internally, there is an underlying perfectionism in most passive actions. The belief of being flawless and only acting if perfection can be achieved is a fundamental aspect of the contemporary passive human portfolio that prevents a person from taking action towards what they have done or will do. The reason for this is that the perfectionist person is unconsciously aware that satisfying the demanding voice within is impossible. Faced with this, the person enters a "freeze" reaction and never takes a step towards that action. Subsequently, the person is labeled as "irresponsible." In reality, the person thinks, "...why bother starting if I can't make it perfect as the inner voice desires?"
...these individuals struggle seriously to initiate their actions. They attempt to take responsibility but often fall short. Instead, recognizing and working on the demanding and coercive voice within, which desires perfection, leads to much more lasting changes in these individuals.
This tale is an analogy for societal deformation. Our inability to end the dominance of those we label as foolish in society removes all slogans, extracting their hatred from their children by becoming unconscious!
Actually, if I knew I wouldn't encounter my mother... I would become a master serial killer, dictating my own life. But unfortunately, the only debt children have is the agony of continuing their lives for mothers who love them unconditionally.

Definitely didn't get bullied for being insufficiently feminine, and everything is kind of squishy, but here are two points which can be reasonably interpreted as social pressure:
I am noticeably shaped by a relationship with a cis woman that went terribly, and concluded the het dating dynamics around me suck. Transgirls seem nicer but "chasers" don't seem to be regarded that well?
I remember someone saying that it's a bad idea for "eggs" to marry, and unethical for them to have children, without first figuring out their gender issues.
Is there an important difference I'm missing?
I think it’s also hard for me to really make a hard philosophical distinction between societally acceptable ways to want to change your body and societally unacceptable ones, and the ways they’re stereotyped; between “worthy” feelings like gender dysphoria and “unworthy” ones like (supposed) mere vanity. And I find as time goes by that increasingly I don’t care; people should have a right to do with their bodies what they want, even if the thing that drives them really is something as tawdry and banal as wanting to look hot.
